Our Team
Samuel Shim
Sam began his legal career in the Cook County State's Attorney's Office in Chicago in 1992 where he prosecuted criminal cases. After his service as a prosecutor, he and his brother founded Shim & Kim in 1998.
Sam is a member of the federal trial bar and he is admitted to practice in Illinois, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit, and Executive Office for Immigration Review Board of Immigration Appeals.
Sam also serves as an adjunct professor at the DePaul College of Law.
Michael Shim
Mike concentrates his practice in helping employers with employment law issues. Mike gained his broad employment law experience while working at the third largest labor and employment law firm in the country. Mike has extensive experience handling employment issues and served many companies of the top Fortune 50 U.S. Corporations, including: General Motors, Home Depot, Nissan, Ford and Dollar General. Mike has experience defending FLSA class action cases and employment discrimination cases in addition to advising employers with traditional labor related issues.
In addition to serving the needs of employers, Mike also serves as an Administrative Law Judge/Hearing Officer for the Chicago Park District and presides over Appeal Hearings related to employee terminations and suspensions. Mike is also a Workplace Investigator for the Cook County Forest Preserve District.
Mike is a member of the federal trial bar and he is admitted to practice in Illinois, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit.
Johnathan Kim
Jonathan began his legal career as a corporate attorney in Chicago in 1996. In 1998, he entered private practice and became a partner at Shim & Kim.
Jonathan's areas of expertise include Real Estate, Business and Corporate Law. He has extensive experience representing individuals and businesses in connection with residential, commercial and industrial real estate matters including sales and purchases, zoning and land use, foreclosures and short sales. He has strong experience reviewing listing or agency agreements, drafting and reviewing real estate condition reports, residential offers to purchase and counter offers, assisting buyers and sellers through property inspection and financing contingencies, working with title insurance companies and reviewing title insurance commitments, checking the settlement statement figures and advising at closing. He has helped a broad range of start-ups and growing companies with business formation and other organizational matters, negotiation and preparation of business contracts, contract disputes and employment matters. He has also represented clients in connection with extensive estate planning and administration matters and personal injury claims.
Jonathan is admitted to practice in Illinois, United States District Court Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit.
Jonathan is committed to offering effective and aggressive representation with a personal one-on-one experience.
Frank Vasquez
Frank began his legal career in the Cook County State's Attorney's Office in Chicago in 1992. He started his private practice in 2000.
As a prosecutor, Frank has tried hundreds of bench and jury trials. In the private sector, he has represented various clients in high profile cases specializing in criminal defense and immigration.
Frank is a member of the federal trial bar and he is admitted to practice in Illinois, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit.
Frank is fluent in Spanish.
